Happy Tuesday everyone! Welcome to week #2 of my Weekly Wine Review. If you missed last week, you can check it out here. What are we drinking this week? Not going to lie, I’m sure excited about this week’s wine because I haven’t had much from this region. Ready??
The Wine
This 2014 Armonéa Pinot Noir comes from the Willamette Valley and more specifically, Dundee Hills region of Oregon.
Musty on the nose, this wine is incredibly fragrant with notes of wet leaves and forest floor.
The flavors of this wine are occupied by tart cherries and raspberries with a very smooth finish.
History
Pinot Noir is one of the most popular grape varietals in the world (and can be pricey too!). It’s known for it’s opaque, light color and usually expresses notes of red fruits as well as herbaceous and earthy notes depending on where it’s grown and how hot or cold the climate is.
Some of the most popular countries the grape is grown are France (Burgundy), USA (California & Oregon), Germany, and New Zealand.
Part of the reason that Pinot Noir can be so expensive, is because of how hard it is to grow! This grape has thin skin and therefore is way more delicate than other varietals.
Pairing
The best part about grabbing a Pinot for a party or gathering is that is goes with almost anything. Because it’s so light, it wont overpower foods like fish or a cream pasta sauce.
It’s also a great wine to buy as a gift because it’s such a classic!
Where To Buy
I would highly recommend grabbing a few Pinots from different regions and checking out how the flavors differentiate.
I was super excited to finally try some Oregon Pinot Noir and it did not dissapoint! You can grab a bottle of Armonéa Pinot Noir here.
