Penner-Ash Winery Overview
Penner-Ash Winery is owned by Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash. Lynn has an impressive pedigree in the wine making world and has worked at places such as Stags Leap and Rex Hill Vineyards.
When hired as the winemaker at Rex Hill, Lynn became the first female winemaker in Oregon.
Learning this before our trip, we knew we had to stop by.
The winery is located in the the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, but overlooks the beautiful Chehalem valley.
For visiting in mid November, we were extremely fortunate to have a view with beautiful clear skies and fall colors.
The Wine
Penner-Ash Winery grows primarily Pinot Noir as well as some Viognier and Riesling.
Their grapes come from vineyards in all 7 of the Willamette Valley’s major AVAs such as Bramble, Shea and Zena Crown.
My picks:
2015 Bella Vida Vineyard Pinot Noir
2015 Zena Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir
Atmosphere
What I loved about Penner-Ash is how much space there was, but it didn’t feel like you were ever being ignored. It was cold, so we mostly tasted in a room with a gorgeous, very large fireplace, but we made sure to sit outside on their patio as long as we could because the views were stunning.
I went to a lot of wineries in the Willamette Valley with pretty views, but nothing has beat the views at Penner-Ash yet.
Great For:
- Pinot Noir lovers
- Couples
- Groups
- Excellent Views
