There are tons of fads out there in the wine world right now. Weird shaped bottles, canned wine, natural wine, but what exactly does that mean?
In a world where everything from our food to our shampoo has chemicals that are going to harm us, natural wine makes me really excited because I can feel good enjoying my wine and not worry about the aftermath.
There are lots of components that make a wine considered a natural wine, although there is no legal or regulated definition of what it means, here are some of the main components to natural wine:
WHAT IS NATURAL WINE
The whole point of natural wine is to keep the essence of the grape, vineyard and wine making process as, you guessed it, natural and pure as possible.
This means, making wine from organic grapes that are usually from small producers.
Have you ever heard of biodynamic vineyards? This is like a step above organic because they are looking at the vineyard as a whole as opposed to just the grapes. They plant, pick, prune all according to a specific calendar. Biodynamic and natural wines go hand in hand, but you can also have a natural wine that’s not biodynamic.
Another key point in natural wine is that the wines are not fined or filtered during the winemaking process and are always made with native yeast as opposed to intentionally adding yeast to start fermentation.
Finally, natural wines do not have sulfites added to them which is a big bonus if you have a sensitivity.
WHY JOIN RAW VINO?
That all sounds pretty awesome, right? Now what about a wine club that only curated wines like I described above?
Raw Vino is a new wine club that does just that! They have an amazing selection of affordable wines that are all natural.
I try to keep as many chemicals out of my body as possible and I love the fact that when you order from Raw Vino, you can try all different types of really unique wines while knowing that they are made from organic grapes, natural yeast and have no additives.
Plus, I love supporting small producers! Think about opening a bottle like these at your next dinner party as opposed to one you can get at the grocery store for the same price. There’s so much more story here and I love sharing those personal touches.
Here are some other really cool things that Raw Vino is doing to help support the planet:
- They source from organic, biodynamic vineyards to help preserve the surrounding ecosystems
- They keep their packages free of pamphlets and other loose items that don’t protect the wine to keep waste at a minimum.
- They donate 5% of profits to California Certified Organic Farmers foundation
- They feature female wine makers to support equality!
Sounds pretty amazing right? They have a lot of options for membership and bottle purchase on their website. You can check them out by clicking here!
